Episode 10: The Life and Work of Max Linder
Max Linder
Gabriel Leuvielle would take on the name "Max Linder" and become one of the very earliest screen sensations. In Max's remarkable career he would make over 500 movies, become one of the first great screen comedians, and arguably the worlds first movie star– certainly the worlds first international movie star. Unfortunately, as of 2021, Linder is largely forgotten, especially when compared to his contemporaries Charles Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd. But at least here on "The History of Film" his work lives again, and it speaks for itself. you can watch several of his movies below.
Max Loves the Bearded Woman (1909)
Max Takes a Bath (1906)
The Unskilled Skater (1907)
Seven Years Bad Luck (1921) - Excerpt
